Shelley Indyk

Design is the ‘eyes’ through which I see the world. It exists in everything we do and see. Its value system is underpinned by openness, honesty and diversity with an interest in learning from each new experience. It is an infinite path, not always leading to enlightenment!

Shelley Indyk has created an office that excels in diversity. Her commitment to high quality design work is apparent in all projects completed. Shelley’s projects embrace 25 years of experience in architecture and interior design: from highly detailed commercial interior fit-outs and new private houses to community based urban projects and architectural competitions. Since 1988, the studio has been consistently involved in community projects, ranging from local Sydney inner city to Arnhem land in Aboriginal territory to Israel -working with Palestinian and Israeli professionals- to Istanbul, Turkey , as design mentor for a United Nations global studio. Indyk Architects latest community project involves the design and construction of a new synagogue, child care centre and education building in Sydney.
Indyk Architects has also been involved in extensive residential and commercial projects, having completed a dozen or so bar and hotel projects. This experience has brought a full understanding of public areas, coordination of all services and working within heritage structures so as to achieve an integrated modern, often quirky, yet respectful approach.
The period 2009-2012 has seen much growth in the relationship between Amalgamated Holdings Pty Ltd and Indyk Architects. This relationship has created opportunities and developed a new understanding of the design of cinemas and associated public places and has extended it to incorporate a keen sensibility towards the client, like for the new QT Hotel brand in Sydney. Indyk’s team for the QT Sydney saw, along side Shelley Indyk, the work of the senior interior designers Christine Correard, Johan VanArkel and Bjorn Dannenmaeir. The team developed several palettes of bespoke joinery and loose furniture including bed heads, mini-bars, glass cabinets , chairs and credenzas, all created turnkey by Interna.
