Jaya Ibrahim

“Contemporary Design With A Pedigree”

Jaya Ibrahim, son of a Javanese princess and a Sumatran civil servant/diplomat turned banker, started his working life as an accountant in London. Completely bored with the job after under just one year, he opted to work in the kitchen of the famous Blakes Hotel in London only to be taken upstairs to become assistant to Anouska Hempel, the world renown designer. He came back to Indonesia in 1992 and started his own design company, Jaya & Associates, with John Saunders. After involvement with the three most important hotel projects in Indonesia at the time: The Legian, The Dharmawangsa and The Aman Jiwo and also in China, Oman, India, Vietnam and The US. It was The Setai Miami that placed him securely amongst the sought after designers on an international level. The studio has now offices in Jakarta, Singapore, Miami, Shanghai and The Seychelles. The expansion has only strengthened Jaya's design discipline, producing unique and one of a kind product, ones that are relevant to their local environment and culture, projects that honour the past and are yet contemporary.
