Alfredo Häberli

“I grew up in Argentina. My grandparents owned a hotel, my parents had a restaurant. Today I live in Switzerland, I speak five languages, none of them perfectly, and every week, in my roaming around, I stay at a different hotel. This scenario encourages me to always develop new options to the usual solutions. The first steps with Interna Collection are the start of a long journey.”

Alfredo Häberli was born in 1964, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He moved to Switzerland in 1977, where in 1991, he graduated in Industrial Design at the Höhere Schule für Gestaltung in Zürich. He received the Diploma Prize, SfGZ in 1991. From 1988 he worked in Zürich for the Museum für Gestaltung, where he was responsible for numerous exhibitions. In 1991 he set up his own studio, and subsequently worked for firms such as Alias, Authentics, Edra, Driade, Luceplan, Thonet and Zanotta. More recently Alfredo Häberli has developed products for Bd Ediciones de Diseño, Georg Jensen, Camper, Iittala, Kvadrat, Moroso, Offecct, Schiffini and Vitra. Alfredo Häberli’s work and designs have been shown in numerous exhibitions throughout Europe and he has received many awards for his work over the years. In 2005 he started the collaboration with Interna by creating items for Contemporary, one of the seven lines of furniture of the Italian company. A personal monograph “Alfredo Aäberli-sketching my own landscape” was published by Frame Publishers in Amsterdam. His own retrospective exhibition «SurroundThings» in 2008 at the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, for which he was responsible for numerous exhibitions since 1988, is a personal dream came true. He was awarded by A&W magazine (Architektur & Wohnen) as the «Designer of the Year 2009».
